The BRAVO-BEATLES-BLITZTOURNEE
by Thorsten Knublauch
Published by
www.bravo-beatles-blitztournee.de (ISBN: 9783837097443) It’s easy to write a book
about the Beatles. Thousands of them have and will be written in the near
future. But is it easy to write a book about just five days in June of 1966? An
article yes, but a whole book? I doubt it. Many books are just fillers, have
nice pictures, a story by some limo driver, fans or whoever was present. But
this one is a goody and a real nice addition to Beatle literature. Thorsten
Knublauch already launched a great book in 2008 with "KOMM GIB MIR DEINE
HAND" which he wrote together with Axel Korinth, detailing greatly every connection
the group had with Germany.
Sadly that publication was only published in German. The Blitztournee book is in
English so there are no speech barriers here and this is well researched for
every little possible detail. Inside there is everything concerning their short
trip to their musical roots, and I mean EVERYTHING. How they came to Germany,
why were only certain cities for concerts chosen, the seating plans, press
coverage, set list, the instruments, sound systems, stage plans, concert
tickets, programs, opening acts, police films, merchandising and even a chapter
about the Beatles earnings for these concerts. A special train was available
for the tour and here are all the known documents, including the menu plans for
the Beatles train, plus many more chapters which are great fun to read about.
There are interesting facts about their short Hamburg stay including some friends of the
past. Also included are interviews and memorabilia of the people who met them
first in 1960 and went to the 1966 concerts as well, plus great unreleased
black & white photos of the shows and a nice colour part with reproduction
of all known concerts tickets, not to forget the concert programmes and other
memorabilia (that cost a fortune nowadays - try to find them!). So if you care
for a well researched nicely written little book where the author put his whole
heart into it…here it is…I hope he writes another one like this. Harald Bartsch
